It’s been 864 days since the old “pink” theme went live on Reina Gibbs, so I figured a new look was long overdue. Unfortunately, that meant upgrading the blog software, too. Doing one can be a bit of a chore, but both was a bit more time-consuming than I considered.
I’ve been working on Reina’s new look for a while now. It’s largely a cross of my own artwork with the excellent Typograph theme by PinkandYellow.com (other influences from here and here).
I still have a little housekeeping yet to do, including:
- restoring the Contact page
- implementing ThickBox (for pop-up pictures and pages) - until I do this, clicking on pictures in some of the older posts will open them in a new window.
- restoring her older videos - I had these in a separate page in the old design. Not sure yet what I’ll do with these. I will be posting all new videos on YouTube and embedding them in blog posts
- general clean-up - I was only able to do a short round of testing on this theme. There are a few features I still need to look over.
In any case, this is Reina’s new theme - called Toddler Comic. What do you think?

Wow, how the time flies. I suddenly looked up and realize I haven’t posted anything in 2008! Life gets busy with Reina. Geeta and I have still been shooting lots of pictures and video, and little Reina is growing like mad. We are continually amazed by her everyday.
I’ll try to make up for the lapse in updates…

Little Reina has had a busy few weeks, visiting family and friends in Philadelphia and Napa Valley, California. She celebrated her 1st Birthday in both cities and will have another in Houston (why only have one party when you can have three?). I’ve posted a few pictures  from California and have also included a video shot at her party in Philadelphia. In it, she downs an entire chocolate cupcake using only her fingers, her hands, her face, and her dress. Click Sugar, Sugar in the vids section and turn your speakers on!

Reina just got back from Los Angeles where she met her cousins Meera and Dillon (and about 25 other relatives and friends). I have 2 videos from the weekend and I’ll try to put them up soon. She’s flown on two trips now and done really well on the plane both times.
I also have about a dozen pictures from various events still in the camera. Those will be also be coming soon.

Reina turns four months old this week and I realize we’ve been unintentionally absent from this blog for quite a few weeks. Although we have continued to post new pictures, it has been quite difficult to find time to write posts of late. Geeta and I will try harder in the coming months.
I have posted two new videos of Reina on the Baby Vids page and will post new pictures this week!

Today, smallestPixel.com grows dark and we open ReinaGibbs.com! In just 21 days, Reina has done an amazing job of honing her web development and design skills. Already she has designed two spiffy new logos and redesigned her site. She has also added quite a few new features including:
- BabyDays - an up-to-the-second clock of her life
- BabyWalls - a collection of desktop wallpaper
And BabyVids, her video collection will be debuting shortly.
Enjoy!

Many people have listened to both Geeta and I describe our anxieties about our cat Ophelia. Anyone who has met her and lived to tell realizes this is no saintly feline. Geeta and I have had nightmares about her leaning over the crib, claws out and lips drooling. In the past nine months several solutions have been put forth by friends and family, including declawing, kitty-Prozac, and just plain tossing Ophelia out the door.
Our fears, it seems, were hideously unnecessary.
When we brought Reina home from the hospital, Ophelia, in the vain pursuit of nonchalance, ignored us for a few hours, only eyeing Reina from the corner of the room, and only then if no one else was looking.
Slowly, she started getting closer and closer; finally sniffing Reina’s head on Friday night. Since then she has even jumped into my lap as I was holding Reina, content only to sit together. In the meantime, she has been uncharacteristically quiet, especially when Reina naps.

This comes as a gargantuan relief to us. Although we won’t ever let our guard completely down, it’s nice to know that Ophelia wasn’t bent on reenacting any scenes from Lady and the Tramp.

After a protracted labor (without pain meds no less!), John announced to me that we had made a girl! It was the perfect ending to my birth experience, marked by great support from John and midwife Titi.
IÂ am looking forward to raising this exquisite creature but must also mention the simple things that have already taken place such as an immediate absence of my constant nausea and heartburn.
John will be posting other photos soon so please visit us here or drop by to see her in person.
Reina is looking forward to upcoming visits by Grami Nancy, Grandpa Madan, Aunt Neena and Uncles Ajay and Manny.

After a long night at the hospital, Geeta is in the delivery room!
We arrived about 5:30pm yesterday evening after a long weekend of labor latent labor and not much sleep. Geeta contracted all through the night, and the morning found her at a glorious 4cm.
After some heavy walking to jump start the morning, the midwife broke her water and we are now waiting for the last bout of contractions that will bring Baby Gibbs into the world.
I’ll be updating when I can…
